The Franzia Brothers Winery – the oldest in Ripon – was reopened after Prohibition when matriarch Teresa (Carrara) made a monumental decision with her sons at her side underneath a walnut tree outside their rural home. She went to the Bank of Italy in Stockton where she applied for a loan to start the family winery once again while her husband Giuseppe was away on a trip.

May is Oregon Wine Month and we’re so excited, we’re starting two days early.

Oregon Wine Month festivities kick off Apr. 29 with the Yamhill-Carlton Spring Tasting, followed by Cellar 503’s Pour Oregon on Apr. 30. Both tasting events feature dozens of wineries from around the state and are part of 14 collaborative events happening in May.

This marks the second nomination for the region, represented by Wines of Provence. Known for setting the gold standard for rosé wine where it has been produced for 26 centuries, Provence is the birthplace of France’s first wine and the world’s largest wine region specializing in dry rosé wine.
